Parking SW2
Most of the roads around SW2 are controlled parking, and either parking suspensions or dispensations are required. For larger Removals in SW2 a parking suspension is a necessity. The suspension has to be booked up to 14 working days in advance of the required date. These are booked with your local council online. For smaller SW2 removals, using vans, we can load and unload for short periods on single yellow lines. Otherwise a dispensation would need to be booked, if we are packing and SW2 flat moving.
A Little Bit About SW2
The SW postcode district was originally created as part of the London Postal District in 1857. In 1868 some of the areas of the abolished S district were added. The postal district of SW2 covers Brixton, Brixton Hill, Streatham Hill, Tulse Hill, Clapham Park, and parts of Balham. The local authority covering these areas is Lambeth.
Brixton’s early settlements were situated around the ancient Roman roads of the Clapham Road (A3) and the Brixton Road (A23). The A3 linking the City of London to the port of Chichester. Brixistane, the eleventh century incantation of modern day Brixton, meaning ‘at the stone of Brihtsige’ was used as a meeting place for local communities.
Streatham means “the hamlet on the street”. The street in question, the London to Brighton Way, was the Roman road from the capital Londinium to the coast near Portslade. It is likely that the destination was a Roman port now lost to coastal erosion, which has been tentatively identified with the ‘Novus Portus’. The road is confusingly referred to as Stane Street in some sources, although it diverges from the main London-Chichester road at Kennington.
The name of the area comes from the Tulse family who came into ownership of farmland in the area during the period of the Commonwealth in the 1650s. In 1814 two new roads Lower Tulse Hill Road (now known as Tulse Hill) and Upper Tulse Hill Road (now Upper Tulse Hill) were built that enabled growth for the area.
With bars, restaurants and farmer’s markets there is something for everyone. Balham is popular with families and offers the opportunity for excellent schools, including Holy Ghost, Aldebrook Primary and Henry Cavendish, also Balham has the second lowest council tax rates in London.
